Stronger Together

Music can transcend differences and bring us together as nothing else can. In this age of anxiety, uncertainty, and isolation, there is no better time to unite through song! Stronger Together will celebrate the power of music and the ability it has to heal. The original performance, scheduled for September 25, 2020, at Legacy Park, has been reinvented into a virtual event. You will hear songs from many of the Zielinski Singers with Norman Phil instrumentalists, Dr. Richard Zielinski, and past performances to celebrate 10 years of A to Z Productions, and the Norman Philharmonic.

The Norman Philharmonic collaborates with the Norman Regional Health Foundation for a special virtual performance dedicated to the power that music has to heal and bring us together. The performance comprises of songs from many of the Zielinski Singers featuring soloist Kayley Williamson, and artistic director Dr. Richard Zielinski, along with past performances in celebration of 10 years of A to Z Productions and the Norman Philharmonic.

 

MLK Celebration and Meet the Composer

In celebration of Martin Luther King Day, we're going virtual with our long-anticipated MLK Celebration performance! This virtual concert includes civil rights songs, hymns, and popular music reminding us of the mission and dreams of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Professor George Henderson from the University of Oklahoma will be our keynote speaker, an accomplished civil rights pioneer in education.

The Norman Phil and guest soloists will explore the music of composer Libby Larsen, writer of the Norman Anthem. Larsen is one of America's most performed living composers. She has created a catalog of over 500 works spanning virtually every genre from intimate vocal and chamber music to massive orchestral works and over 15 operas. Grammy award-winning and widely recorded, including over 50 CDs of her work, she is continuously sought after for commissions and premieres by major artists, ensembles, and orchestras around the world.

 

Baroque Masters

Sunday, March 7, 2021, at 7:30 pm, A Virtual Experience

Chorales by Bach will include "Herzlich lieb hab ich dich, o Herr," "Jesu, meine Freude," and "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme” arr. Ward Swingle, as well as Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 from a 2012 Norman Phil live performance. Solo performances include Bach's Prelude and Fugue in e minor with organist John Morrow, the Torelli Sonata in D featuring Karl Sievers on trumpet, Handel's "Let the Bright Seraphim" with soprano Nicole Van Every, and the Handel Sonata in F for recorder with soloist Michael Stafford.

This virtual performance, recorded at McFarlin United Methodist Church, will include members of the Zielinski Singers, including John Morrow, Karl Sievers, Nicole Van Every, Michael Stafford, Rachel Morrow, Giovanni Corrodus, Sangwook Park, Ashely Carr, Emi Bias, Kendell Lowry, Kayley Williamson, Rodney Westbrook, Tarasina Compagni, Alex Irwin, Ting Ting Tang, Xander McRae, Reese Phillips, and George Soter, with special guests Kyle Reid, and Johnny Carlton.
